Telling the story of Zapatista education
The autonomous indigenous schools of Chiapas, Mexico represent a unique and growing phenomena which are discussed at length on this web page. However the words and still photos on this web site can only tell a part of that rapidly evolving story.
Therefore, with support from the Mayan communities and Zapatista leadership, Schools for Chiapas has undertaken the ambitious, long-term project of producing a video about these schools and education centers throughout Chiapas. Indigenous video makers and autonomous education authorities are already cooperating with parents and education promoters to capture on tape the diversity and similarities throughout Chiapas. The photos that you see on this page are all taken during filming at autonomous schools for this statewide video.
We are convinced that this long-term project will eventually yield blooms of beautiful flowers with rich and rewarding fruits. At this time Schools for Chiapas is seeking funding to provide resources to the Mayan filmmakers and regional education system to continue work on this important project.
